Get Your CT Pistol Permit in 3 Steps!

How do I get a Connecticut State Pistol Permit (CCW) to carry a gun? CT.GovFirst, let's make sure you qualify: Applicants must be at least 21 years old and be a legal resident of the United States. Persons convicted of a felony or any one of 11 misdemeanor offenses detailed in the statute are ineligible to receive a permit. The rest of the qualifications can be found at the CT.gov website.

To get your State Permit, you'll need apply for your Temporary Permit. The Pistol Permit Application is available at CT.gov or you may visit your local Police Department or First Selectman's office to pick one up, or call (860) 685-8494 to have an application mailed out. The application comes with instructions to complete it, along with the proper fee schedule.

Here is where SC Pistol Safety comes in: On Targetschedule and take your class with us!  Our NRA "Basic Pistol Safety Course", is mandated as a prerequisite to submitting the application. The NRA's "Home Firearms Safety Course" and "First Steps Pistol Orientation Program" are not approved courses.  After successfully completing our NRA class, you'll then fill out the application and return the application to the police department with the NRA certificate we give you.

Now on to step 3...

You are almost done! In about 8 weeks, once your background check Certifiedis complete and all the paperwork is processed, you'll be issued a Temporary 60 Day Connecticut Pistol Permit. Now you'll take that paperwork to either the Bridgeport State Police Barracks, or the Department of Public Safety in Middletown, CT. There you will be photographed and issued your permanent Connecticut Pistol Permit (CCW), which is valid for 5 years.
